Echo

The imitation in music of a natural echo effect. Often used in the classroom when a vocal or instrumental part literally copies another. It was often employed widely in early vocal music during the 16 and 17 in madrigals. There is an 'echo dance and chorus' in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Vivaldi (amongst the Baroque composers) wrote a beautiful 'Echo' concerto for two violins and orchestra.
